Welcome to El Paso ISD, where we are committed to partnering with our families and community members to provide inclusive and fair learning experiences to our students. We are dedicated to exploring how potential attendance zone adjustments can better serve our families. As part of our strategic review, we are carefully examining our protocols and procedures to enhance our organizational systems.  

For the first time in about a decade, El Paso ISD formed a School Attendance Zone (SAZ) committee, consisting of community members representing campuses within our four Zones of Excellence (West, South Central, East Central, and Northeast). This committee has thoroughly reviewed existing attendance zones, enrollment figures, and various data sets from our recent demographic study. Their insights guided the administration in creating an initial report, which examines the impact of Open Enrollment and includes recommended school attendance zone adjustments aimed at ensuring continuity within neighborhood feeder schools. 

Currently, we have 16 split campuses throughout the district, where students transition to different feeder campuses as they progress from elementary to middle school or from middle school to high school. In addition, 39% of our families chose to transfer their child(ren) to an El Paso ISD school not zoned to their address.   

We asked for your input

We invited parents, faculty, staff, and community members to join us in exploring the potential school attendance zone adjustments that we feel promote continuity within neighborhood schools.  

During scheduled in-person or virtual community meetings, we listened to input from district stakeholders on the recommendations the committee collaboratively put forth.  

The committee shared the initial findings and recommendations in detail. We believe that input from district stakeholders is crucial in this process to determine if the committee's initial recommendations align with their community’s needs. We requested your assistance in spreading the word and personally inviting families residing within the proposed zone to attend these community meetings.  

The valuable input we received shaped our future decisions and contributed to the creation of the proposed School Attendance Zone Recommendations, which were presented to the Board of Trustees for approval. Once approved, the changes to school attendance zones/boundaries will take effect at the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year.  

New students enrolling in El Paso ISD district schools and students in transition grades (such as current 5th-grade students moving to middle school or current 8th-grade students transitioning to high school) will be scheduled to attend their new campus.  

Note: We would like to remind El Paso ISD families that they have the option to enroll their children in their designated neighborhood school or utilize the transfer process to enroll them in another school within the district.
