Powell Elementary is named after Colin Luther Powell, a retired four-star general of the United States Army who was once an Airborne Ranger. He later became National Security Adviser during the Reagan administration and was appointed by President George H. W. Bush as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the highest military position in the Department of Defense. General Powell was the first African-American officer to receive this distinction. Established in the 2009-2010 school year, our campus proudly bears the name of General Colin L. Powell. To honor him, our mascot is the Ranger, our colors are green and gold, our school crest was fashioned after the Ranger crest, and our motto follows the Ranger motto of Rangers Lead the Way.
