A strong base in mathematics is critical for preparing college-ready students with the abilities, interest, and confidence to pursue careers of their choice in a math-based job market. This project focuses on improving math instruction for the approximate 3,220 military connected elementary and middle school students in the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD). It also provides Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) enhanced coursework to elementary schools to target student confidence and ability to pursue advanced high school options within the district. Implementation of this project empowers EPISD students to be engaged learners, innovators, and drivers of a robust twenty-first century economy.

DoDEA 2017 has three goals. The first, is to improve the college and career readiness outcomes of military dependent elementary students in math. The second, is to improve the college and career readiness outcomes of military dependent middle school students in math. Lastly, this project aims to improve the STEM outcomes of military dependent elementary students.

EPISD will provide creative, active learning environments for students by providing projects where students design, explore, refine and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding. Programs such as Project Lead the Way, SpringBoard Math and After-school coding, are implemented at the campuses listed below using DoDEA 2017 funds to provide these learning opportunities to our military students.
