El Paso ISD Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps
The United States Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) came into being with the passage of the National Defense Act of 1916. JROTC was established in the ELPASO Independent District as early as 1880.  El Paso HS JROTC is the oldest JROTC program in the state of Texas.  Once looked upon primarily as a source of enlisted recruits and officer candidates.  The JROTC program is the largest leaderhsip citizenship program in the nation.

The Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) is a leadership development course, for high school students. The curriculum is dynamic and modern which includes service learning and focuses on the student's core abilities to fulfill our mission statement. Physical education credits and or elective credits can be earned through this course. JROTC is JUNIOR, RESERVE, OFFICER, TRAINING, CORPS. JROTC is designed to teach the value of citizenship, leadership, service to the community, personal responsibility, and a sense of self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline.  This course prepares you for responsible leadership roles while making you aware of your rights, responsibilities, and privileges as an American citizen.

El Paso Independent School District JROTC Department consists of 8 Army, 1 Marine Corps, and 1 Air Force programs with a total JROTC enrollment of 1,100 students for school year 2018-2019.

What JROTC is not
JROTC is NOT A RECRUITING TOOL for the armed forces of the United States of America, and there is NO REQUIREMENT TO SERVE IN THE ARMED FORCES as a result of participating in the program.
