Bowie High closes EPISD's 2021 Graduation Season on home turf
(BOWIE HIGH SCHOOL -- June 21, 2021) — The Bowie Bears on Monday evening reveled in the chance to close off EPISD’s 2021 Graduation Season on their home turf: Baty-Simmang Stadium.
The last of 12 graduation ceremonies for EPISD was filled with the traditional Oso! Oso! Oso! feel that is typical of all Bowie events. The crowd was there to celebrate the 202 graduates of the Class of 2021 ... a class that brought in $2.8 million in scholarships.
They were led by valedictorian Yulianna Alexandra Salas and salutatorian Evelyn Sandoval. Bowie’s All Boy and Girl are Juan Camacho and Cynthia Tarin.
Salas addressed her classmates with some words of wisdom as they enter a new chapter in their lives and thanked those who made a difference in her high school journey.
“Here we are in another milestone of a journey and on the way to our dreams and goals, which are only the cherry of the cake,” Salas said. “Look up to the future, but don't look too much or you'll become anxious, look up to the past to see your mistakes to learn and see how much you've grown to use it for motivation and not to be depressed, live today as it is called the present, a well given gift.”
Sandoval also thanked others for supporting and inspiring her throughout her school years.
“If there’s someone I’d greatly praise, it’s Liliana Camarena. She’s someone who greatly shaped me into the person I am now,” Sandoval said. “She took a rebellious teenage girl who loved basketball and turned her into a whole señorita with dreams. I don’t know exactly where I’d be without these people, so as much recognition I get for graduating, they also deserve it for helping me reach this point. And for those who left, thank you, I’ll forever cherish our memory and hope that someday we’ll be able to drink coffee while having a conversation.”
