El Paso High’s Class of 2022 graduates with 353 seniors
(EL PASO HIGH SCHOOL -- June 3, 2022) — El Paso High’s Class of 2022 closed the first day of EPISD’s Graduation Season on Friday with an inspirational ceremony under the shadow of the stunning columns of the Lady on the Hill.
A total of 353 seniors graduated at R.R. Jones Stadium, amassing $22 million in scholarship awards this year.
“I can say without hesitation that I’ve never been so honored to recognize and celebrate such remarkable and resilient students as our seniors sitting before us today,” principal Mark Paz said. “Our time together at the Lady on the Hill has been a rollercoaster of excitement, pain, sometimes anger and now joy.”
The class of 2022 is led by valedictorian Jad Yacoub and salutatorian Valentina Vazquez.
Yacoub, who will attend Harvard University this fall, took the stage to share his thoughts on excellence while reflecting on some of his childhood struggles.
“As long as we have the bravery to embrace the circumstances we are given, the confidence to enact our concept, and the courage to be proud of who we are and who we will be, then our best days are yet to come,” said Yacoub, who graduates with a 4.7 GPA.
Vazquez, who has 4.62 GPA, talked about honor – especially the honor she and her classmates have had to walk the halls of La High.
“We have grown together through these past four years,” she said. “In the face of adversity, which we all experience at our time here, we have found the motivation to excel with integrity.”
All-El Paso Boy Jordan Porflit challenged his class to give back to the community – especially to their now alma mater.
“No matter where we go, we will still have the huge responsibility to carry the pride that has been instilled in us through many years of legacy, honor and tradition,” he said. “Now it’s our time to go, excel, give back, and never forget the pride we felt as El Paso High Tigers.”
