Bond Elementary's Pink Pumpkin Patch raises breast cancer Awareness
(BOND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL -- Oct. 12, 2020) — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the members for the Bond Student Council want to pink out their beautiful grounds. They need the help of the community, however.
The award-winning student council last week set up their Pink Pumpkin Patch in front of the school featuring several pumpkins painted the color of breast cancer awareness. The council is reaching out to all students, neighbors and even nearby schools to help them fill the patch with as many pink pumpkins as possible.
“We want to celebrate fall but do it in a manner that we create a conversation about breast cancer awareness among young students,” said teacher Kristin Parsley, who sponsors the Bond Student Council. “We hope the community comes through and that we have many more pink pumpkins in our patch.”
The patch is located on the grounds of the school and anyone who wishes to drop off a pumpkin may do so. Bond staff will be monitoring the area for safety.
Parsley said other Breast Cancer Awareness activities include Pink Wednesdays, where students are asked to log on to distance learning courses wearing pink outfits.
The Bond Student Council is the three-time recipient of the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association’s Leadership Award, the only El Paso school to receive the honor.
