A Message from Diana Sayavedra

Dear El Paso ISD,

I hope all the fathers enjoyed a wonderful and memorable Father’s Day, celebrating with their families and reflecting on the important role they play in their children's education. This week, our district observed Juneteenth by closing on Wednesday. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, marking the end of one of the darkest chapters in our history. It is a day for reflection and celebration, serving as a powerful reminder of the enduring struggle for freedom and equality.

Summer is now in full swing, and while most of our students are enjoying their break, our district remains dedicated to offering a well-rounded educational experience. We have planned various activities for June and July to keep our students engaged in learning.

Our campuses are hosting summer camps in basketball, chess, art, and gardening. These camps will ensure our students stay active and mentally stimulated throughout the break. Parents can register their children online to participate in these classes.

In addition to our summer camps, El Paso ISD, in collaboration with our partner, El Paso Community College (EPCC), is proud to announce an expansion of dual credit opportunities for high school students this summer. Over 1,100 students are being transported daily to EPCC campuses, including Valle Verde, Transmountain, Rio Grande, and Northwest, for Summer Session 1 dual credit courses. Coordinated with EPISD transportation, this initiative ensures students have access to these valuable educational opportunities. Parents can learn more about the program by clicking here

We also want to remind the community about the free summer meals program funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Breakfast and lunch are provided at 32 El Paso ISD schools at no charge to any child throughout the summer break. For more information, click here

Our students continue to be recognized for their outstanding achievements. Next week, Silva Health Magnet student Sheneli de Silva will participate in HOSA’s International Leadership Conference. HOSA, run by students and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, aims to help students become leaders in the health sector. Sheneli recently placed first in Medical Spelling at HOSA’s area conference and first in the state contest. Way to go!

Additionally, Bowie High School student Daniel Moreno has been selected to attend the internationally renowned National Seminario Ravinia: Orchestras for All! festival in July. This festival will feature over 130 students from 43 orchestral organizations across the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Greece, and Sweden. The students will work under the leadership of famed conductors Marin Alsop and Jessica Altarriba. Daniel will attend the festival on a full scholarship from the Ravinia Festival and Tocando Music Project. Congratulations!

Thank you all for your continued support and dedication to the success of our students.

It Starts With Us.

Sincerely,

Diana Sayavedra
