Students & Teachers Present at ECHS STEM Conference
On February 20, 2019, select Maverick students and faculty presented at the Embedding STEM in an ECHS Winter Regional Convening. The conference was attended by teachers, administrators, district-level administrators, and representatives from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Principal Lopez did an excellent job of detailing the many programs offered at TMECHS, including Pre-AP(PAP)/Dual Credit (DC) Biology, PAP/DC Chemistry, On-Ramps DC Earth and Space, Forensics, and DC Geology, among others.
Senior, Kaylee Wersant and instructor, Leo Wallace presented the course offered in partnership with the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Innovative System Project for the Increased Recruitment of Emerging STEM Students (InSPIRESS).
Juniors, Jose Merino-Gardea Oscar Rico, presented their engineering projects involving flashlights with rechargable batteries and a camera they fashioned out of a shoe box.
Instructors, Danielle Healy and Sarah Porter, detailed the cross curricular PBL they completed in partnership with fellow TMECHS teacher, David Esparza. The project included requirements for three courses: PAP World Geography, PAP or DC Biology, and Business Information Management.
