    Advice for your second year in High School

    · Meet with your Counselors. Meet with your counselor often to discuss your graduation plan and progress. Meet with your College Readiness Coordinator to discuss colleges and their requirements.

    · Plan to use your summer wisely. Work, volunteer, or take a summer course (away or at a local college). Remember that colleges want to recruit students that will make a difference on their campus- you can start by being involved and productive your high school years.

    · Attend college and career information events. Get a more detailed look at university and career options.

    · Research majors that might be a good fit with your interests and goals. You can start researching on the U.S. Department of Labor’s career search page.

    Parents

    · Help your child develop independence by encouraging him or her to take responsibility for balancing homework with any other activities or a part-time job.

    · Help your child research college and career options.

    · Keep an eye on your child’s study habits and grades—stay involved.
