Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) is a global nonprofit organization that functions with one main principle in mind, holding students accountable. AVID believes that when students are held to a higher degree of expectation, with academic and social support, they will succeed! AVID is a non-profit organization that trains educators to use research based practices in order to prepare students for achievement in high school, college, and a career. AVID at the secondary level doesn’t mean that all students are enrolled in an AVID Elective class, but it does mean that all students are provided an environment where academic expectations are held high, inquiry-based pedagogy and collaboration are evidenced in all classrooms.
During the summer break, several CCTA members departed to San Antonio for the annual AVID Conference. The team consisted of 6 members from various content areas. The CCTA team engaged in an assortment of breakout sessions that focused on instruction, systems, leadership, and culture. During our most recent staff development, the CCTA staff engaged in additional professional development; The Cornell Note-Taking System, Costa’s Levels of Questioning, and WICOR Strategies (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading). CCTA is committed to providing a safe, conducive learning environment where ALL students have an opportunity to succeed!
