Winners of annual EPISD holiday card art contest announced

Genesis Castro, Canyon Hills MS

Jayleenana G, MacArthur IS  Dain Cortez, Chapin HS

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT -- Dec. 7, 2020) — EPISD’s 30-year-old holiday card tradition took a digital transformation this year, giving students an opportunity to share their creativity and spreading some holiday cheer.

Student compete in elementary, middle and high school to get the top greeting card in the District, which is traditionally displayed at Central Office and mailed out as the official EPISD card for the superintendent. This year, it will go digital.

“Our teachers and art students look forward to participating every year and share their expressive artwork with all of us,” said Rosa Aguilar, visual arts facilitator. “All postcard entries reflect a personal interpretation of the holiday season done by our young artists. The artwork submitted not only celebrates student’s talent but it also reminds us of that in the midst of a pandemic, there is hope and joy around us.”

Fine Arts noticed a bump in digital entries than Christmases past – a definite sign of the times.

“This is an indicator of the high level of digital literacy in our district,” Aguilar said.
