(GUILLEN MIDDLE SCHOOL — May 18, 2023) — Community members and organizations were recognized for their volunteer efforts to distribute food to families in need in El Paso's South Side during a recognition event Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Guillen Family Resource Center.

Since last summer, El Paso ISD Community Schools has been hosting three monthly food distributions at multiple sites including Cooley Elementary School, Bowie High School and Armijo Park. Aside from El Paso ISD staff, the food distribution events really on a dedicated team of volunteers, most of whom are El Paso ISD parents. More than 5,000 families were assisted through the program last year.

On Thursday, the following organizations were recognized for their support:

• El Pasoans Fighting Hunger, for providing food
• Project Vida, for nonprofit sponsorship
• Boys and Girls Club, for acting as host site
• Bowie High School
• Cooley Elementary School
• American Heart Association
• Bowie High School students
• Segundo Barrio community members
