Irvin High Principal Inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

(EL PASO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT – June 20, 2024) — Irvin High School Principal Robert “Bobby” Stives was honored by the El Paso City Council and the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame association during an El Paso City Council meeting in early June.

Stives started bowling when he was in elementary school and has achieved significant success throughout his career. He has competed in numerous city, state, and national tournaments, winning several championships along the way including the USCB Eagle trophy.

“Being inducted into the El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame is a great honor to join such an elite group of bowlers in El Paso,” Stives said. “It’s something that my entire family will be able to cherish for the rest of our lives as we walk around the Don Haskins looking for the plaque.”

Initially, Stives aspired to make a career out of bowling and hoped to join the Professional Bowlers Association tour. However, his career path changed when he took a substitute teaching job at Irvin High School during his junior year at UTEP. He was studying business at the university but found great enjoyment in teaching students.

Stives, an alumnus of El Paso ISD, attended Crosby Elementary, Magoffin Middle School, and graduated from Irvin High School in 1994. Despite his demanding role as principal, Stives continues to bowl competitively.

He and the other athletes will be formally celebrated during the 2024 El Paso Athletic Hall of Fame banquet held on Wednesday, June 26 at the El Paso Community College Administrative Services Center at 9050 Viscount Blvd.
