  • The Hospitality and Tourism Career Cluster® focuses on the management, marketing, and operations of restaurants and other food/beverage services, lodging, attractions, recreation events, and travel-related services. Students learn knowledge and skills focusing on communication, time management, and customer service that meet industry standards. Students will explore the history of the hospitality and tourism industry and examine characteristics needed for success in that industry.


  • Culinary Arts

    This Program of study is offered at The Center for Career and Technology Education

    First Year: Culinary Arts 1: HT3I00Y2 or HT3I0DY2 (Dual Credit)
    Year long course/1.0 credit per semester

    This course prepares students for a career in the food service culinary industry and hospitality. It is a comprehensive introduction to the commercial culinary environment. The student will acquire culinary, business, technical, and problem solving skills in order to successfully continue their food service education.

    CHEF 1305 Sanitation and Safety: Dual Credit/Fall Semester
    CHEF 1301 Basic Food Preparation: Dual Credit/Spring Semester
     
    Second Year: Practicum in Culinary Arts 2: HT4I00Y2/HT4I0DS1 (Dual Credit)
    Year long course/1.0 credit per semester

    This course provides specific opportunities for students to participate in a learning experience that combines classroom instruction with actual business and industry career experience. Its goal is to prepare students with a variety of skills in a competitive food service environment.

    PSTR 1301 Fundamentals of Pastry: Dual Credit/Fall Semester
     
    Course Requirements
    First year students are required to obtain a Texas Department of Health Food Handler Certification. The cost of this certification is $25. Second year students may obtain a ServSafe National Certification. The cost of this certification exam is $40.
