Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) & Honors Courses

  • Overview

All students deserve the opportunity to prepare for rigorous college-level courses. Pre-AP and honors courses allow middle and high school students to build skills for success in Advanced Placement (AP), dual credit, OnRamps, and beyond.

Benefits of taking Pre-AP courses and Honors Courses

Pre-AP is designed to be accessible to all students. Back mapped from College Board’s AP Program, Pre-AP grade-level instruction develops skills for future success with AP. Like Pre-AP courses, honors classes provide a more rigorous curriculum that challenges students to think critically, analyze complex concepts, and engage in deeper learning. This helps develop higher-order thinking skills that are essential for academic success.

Higher GPA points are awarded in Tier II advanced courses to reflect the rigor of the curriculum. For example, a "100" in a Pre-AP or honors course equals 4.5 rather than 4.0 in a regular class. See Local Policy EIC for the letter grade conversion chart.

    District Courses

Pre-AP and honors courses are open to all EPISD students in grades 6 through 12. Ask your school counselor about the Pre-AP and honors courses offered at your campus:
