CONDUCTING RESEARCH IN EPISD

The El Paso ISD Research Review Board (RRB) is committed to supporting quality research that addresses questions of educational importance and contributes to the improvement of the educational program in the District. The RRB will be very selective when considering and reviewing application submissions. The research submissions must demonstrate clear and direct educational value and be of minimal demands on instructional time and district resources.

APPLICATION PROCESS
Applications for the 2024-2025 school year will be available August 16, 2024. Please check back.
You may review Steps 1-4 below to ensure a smooth application submission. If you have specific questions, please email the EPISD RRB at strategyevaluation@episd.org.

Step 1: Review the district guidelines and deadlines
Thank you for your interest in conducting research at the El Paso Independent School District. All research studies must be aligned to district guidelines. Please click here to review the "External Research Guidelines" to ensure your study meets the requirements.

Step 3: Complete the application & Secure an EPISD Sponsor
If your study meets the screener questions in Step 2 above, an application link will be emailed to you. You may start the application without an EPISD Research Study Sponsor form. However, you will not be allowed to submit the application without it. Submitting an incomplete application will result in your application not being reviewed. Below is a list of the documents you may be expected to upload during the application process.
Required for all application submissions
- Signed EPISD Research Study Sponsor form (emailed to qualifying applicants)
Required for specific application submissions (determined by type of study)
- ALL study instrument(s) (focus group & interview questions, etc.)
- ALL consent/assent form(s) (English and Spanish forms are required for parents)
- ALL required partnering materials (MOUs, data sharing agreements, contracts, etc.)
- Proposal (as submitted to sponsoring Organization/University)
- IRB notification letter (approval/exemption from Organization/University)

Step 4: Receive EPISD RRB email and Take Action
The EPISD RRB staff will email applicants and sponsors notifying them of a recommendation for approval, denial or modification. The email will contain the details needed at that time.

IMPORTANT MESSAGES
The application window for the 2024-2025 school year will open August 16, 2024, and the first submission deadline will be September 20, 2024.
In order to address the issue of survey fatigue across the district and to ensure a balance between instructional time and survey administration, the RRB will be very selective in reviewing and approving any research with surveys.
The research applicant must coordinate with their EPISD sponsor to contact the appropriate departments to secure any required partnering materials (e.g., contracts, MOUs, data sharing agreements, etc.).
