CBEs are designed to evaluate a student's mastery of a given subject or discipline relative to Texas standards. They can be used for credit recovery or acceleration in a course (K-12) or grade level (K-8). The following CBEs cannot be used to replace an end-of-course exam (EOC) or acceleration, only credit recovery:
- Algebra I A & B
- Biology A & B
- English I A & B
- English II A & B
- U.S. History A & B
Credit Recovery
- With approval, students in grades 6-12 who received prior instruction in a subject area but did not receive credit may earn credit by passing an exam (grade of 70% or above) that assesses the student's knowledge and skills in that subject area.
Acceleration
- With approval, students in grades K-12 seeking placement credit in a subject area in which they have not received prior instruction may earn credit by passing all content exams for the grade level with a grade of 80% or above (SKIP-A-GRADE).
